Building a healthier future for Didsbury District Health Services and its communities.
Our Biggest Accomplishment
The DDHS HeliPad Project
Between 2013 and 2016, extensive fundraising efforts were undertaken as the Heliport Project became the main focus of the Foundation. Donors included local municipalities such as the Town of Didsbury, the Town of Carstairs, and Mountain View County. The business community, comprising large corporations and small local businesses, along with service groups, local charities, and numerous individual community members, also contributed through private donations.
At the end of the campaign, the Rosebud Health Foundation had raised over $400,000 to complete the project.
Albert Ohlhauser and Clem Kuelker were the two leaders within the Foundation who championed the Heliport Project and were undoubtedly the key individuals responsible for its completion.
Every patient treated and life saved is made possible, in part, by their tireless efforts.
The new helipad saw its first STARS aircraft landing on June 19, 2017, just two days after its official opening. Typically, a STARS mission touches down at the Didsbury Heliport approximately once a month.
Each use of the heliport eliminates the previous need for the Fire Department and EMS resources to assist with landings at a different location. Today, the Didsbury Hospital and its Emergency Department continue to serve our communities as effectively as ever.
